Dessert vermicelli
Here's a recipe for a tasty dessert vermicelli (sawion ka paloa) :
Ingredients:
1 cup vermicelli
1/4 cup ghee (clarified butter) or coconut oil
1/2 cup sugar (adjust to taste)
2 cup water
1/2 teaspoon cardamom powder
1/4 cup chopped nuts (almonds, cashews, pistachios)
1/4 cup raisins
A pinch of saffron strands
A pinch of salt
Instructions:
Heat ghee or coconut oil in a pan over medium heat.
Add vermicelli and roast until it turns golden brown, stirring constantly to ensure even browning.
In a separate saucepan, heat water and sugar to create a sugar syrup. Add saffron strands.
Once the vermicelli is roasted, pour the sugar syrup into the pan and mix well.
Add cardamom powder and a pinch of salt to the mixture. Stir and cook until the vermicelli absorbs the sugar syrup.
In another small pan, lightly roast the chopped nuts and raisins.
Add the roasted nuts and raisins to the vermicelli mixture and give it a final stir.
Remove from heat and let it sit for a few minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
Serve the dessert vermicelli warm or at room temperature.
