Classic Pizza Recipe
Pizza is a popular and versatile dish that can be customized to suit individual tastes. While there are many variations and preferences when it comes to pizza, here is a classic pizza recipe that you can try:
Ingredients:
For the pizza dough:
2 ¼ cups (280g) all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon active dry yeast
¾ cup (180ml) warm water
2 tablespoons olive oil
For the pizza sauce:
1 can (400g) crushed tomatoes
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 teaspoon dried basil
1 tablespoon olive oil
Salt and pepper to taste
For the toppings:
Mozzarella cheese, shredded
Your choice of toppings (e.g., pepperoni, mushrooms, bell peppers, onions, etc.)
Fresh basil leaves (optional)
Instructions:
Prepare the pizza dough:
In a small bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until the yeast becomes foamy.
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil.
Stir the mixture until it starts to come together, then transfer it onto a lightly floured surface.
Knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours or until it doubles in size.
Prepare the pizza sauce:
In a saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.
Add the crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine.
Simmer the sauce on low heat for about 15-20 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together. Remove from heat and set aside.
Preheat the oven:
Preheat your oven to the highest temperature it can reach (usually around 500°F/260°C). If you have a pizza stone, place it in the oven while preheating.
Shape the pizza:
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and transfer it to a lightly floured surface.
Divide the dough into two equal portions for two pizzas or leave it whole for one large pizza.
Roll out the dough into your desired shape and thickness. If you prefer a thin crust, roll it out thinner, and if you like a thicker crust, keep it slightly thicker.
Assemble the pizza:
Transfer the rolled-out dough to a pizza peel or a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Spread a generous amount of the prepared pizza sauce over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges.
Sprinkle a layer of shredded mozzarella cheese over the sauce.
Add your desired toppings evenly over the cheese.
Bake the pizza:
Carefully transfer the pizza to the preheated oven (if using a pizza stone, slide it onto the stone).
Bake for about 10-15 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly and slightly browned.
Remove the pizza from the oven and let it cool slightly.
Garnish with fresh basil leaves if desired.
Slice the pizza and serve hot.
